Who will keep child when parent dies?

Our son 20 living with parents in Louisiana was granted full (sole) custody of his 4yr.old daughter in 2008. Mother has only supervised visitation since her bad choices in her life is why my son was granted custody. Question is if (God forbid) our son pes away can we (grandparents) retain custody of our granddaughter?
