Why Are Certain Bands Being Clified As "Rockstars"?

I have recentley peeked in to do research on what new, fresh, upcoming rock bands might sound like and I listened to a few that many websites clified as "rock and roll". I am truly confused. Is it just me or do all the self proclaimed "rock bands" just put a bunch of pretty, dark, deep words in their songs, scramble them together so they can make semi - sense, then throw in a two second guitar solo and label them "rock and roll anthems?" What happened to real rockstars like old school Marilyn Manson, Metallica, Slayer, Nirvana, Arch Enemy, Skid Row, Jill, Motley Crue?? Why is Avril Lavignes "Girlfriend" song clified as hard rock?? WHAT HAPPENED DAMMIT??????
